The report is based on the feelings and experiences during the translating of theMission and Revolution in Central Asia. For the translator, translating this kind oftext is a matter of “inter-cultural communication” experience.John Hultvall, the writer of the book, wrote the Sweden missionary work inKashgar during the end of the19thcentury to the1940s. It’s on the basis of a largenumber of first-hand information, and it reflects the society, the people and theculture in Kashgar in those missionaries’ eyes, therefore it is of high historical value.As the missionaries and the writer “observe” the society from the perspective ofwestern culture, the text is fruit of inter-cultural writing if we understand the textfrom the angle of inter-cultural communication translation.
