Calligraphy and painting is an important part in the culture ofChina. Its development history can trace from the primitive societyto the contemporary era. It may be said a long history. Guizhou wascalled as the land of the barbarians in history. The developmentof calligraphy and painting was kind of slow.There was hardly everworks by the calligraphists before Ming Dynasty. It can not beproved so far. Till to the eleventh year of Ming Yongle, the centralauthority set up the administrative commissioner’s office inGuizhou. And Guizhou officially became the provincialadministration. Thus, the records of the calligraphists increasedgradually. The context of the calligraphy and painting artdevelopment was more apparent. Although Guizhou lagged behind themost parts of China in economy since the province establishment.The culture was really not behind the curve. The development of thecalligraphy and painting art in its true sence was not long, butthe influence was very profound.Under the circumstances of research literature deficit, it isobjective and just to insist the research attitude. This paperdiscusses Guizhou calligraphy and painting art from four aspectsby collecting historical materials in various ways and constrastive analysis.In the first part, the paper introduces the significance and theresearch actuality of Ming and Qing Dynasties calligraphy andpainting art in Guizhou. On this basis, the paper recommends theresearch method and innovation.In the second part, the paper discusses the background of Mingand Qing Dynasties calligraphy and painting art from theinheritance of calligraphy and painting art, the development ofeducation and calligraphy and painting art, the motivation of theelites to the calligraphy and painting art and significance of theimmigrant culture to the calligraphy and painting art.In the third part, the paper states the characteristics of Mingand Qing Dynasties calligraphy and painting in Guizhou from itsartistic spirit, its rich geographical features, its bloominginside but perfuming outside and the rapid rise of ethniccalligraphy and painting and so on.In the forth part, the paper discusses the influence of Ming andQing Dynasties calligraphy and painting art to the poetry, dramaand traditional Chinese painters in the Republic of China.
