In recent years, a growing number of construction companies participate in the overseasengineering projects. The booming of this industry has spawned a large demand of professionaltranslation talents. Given its wide range of knowledge and specialization, the translation ofengineering texts directly affected the schedule and quality of the project.The report discusses an engineering text of project upgrading and expanding. Through theanalysis of translation process and cases, three problems were brought up and discussed:understanding the general characteristics of engineering texts; achieving the accuracy,professionalism and readability under the guidance of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance”;mastering some basic skills of translating engineering texts.The report mainly consists of four parts. In the first part, the author introduces features ofengineering texts, including technical terms, long sentences and passive voice. In the second part,the author introduces the preparation work, including the usage of corpus, translation criteria andduration of the task. In the third part, the author introduces some translation skills through caseanalysis, including noun-string of specialized terms and other techniques. In the last part, theauthor made a conclusion and raises some requests for translators about broadening knowledge,mastering vocabulary and so on.The report shows that, when it comes to translating those professional and practicalengineering texts, translator must be equipped with certain qualities like fixing the word meaningand understanding the sentence structure and reproducing the original writing style. Meanwhile,those criteria are not only the key to conveying original meaning but also the prerequisite tomeeting the requirements of readers or clients.
