A Study On Improving The Quality Of Sentences In Simultaneous Interpreting

Just under the time pressure of simultaneous interpreting (SI), it can be veryhard to interpret the message from the source language into the target languagewithout omitting any elements in complete sentence and at the right pace. Due to thedifferences between Chinese and English in their sentence structures and word orders,problems against with syntactic rules and the logic frequently occur and are commonamong student interpreters. These problems greatly influence the quality ofinterpretation. The paper tries probe into these problems from different perspectives tofind the real causes. With the guidance of coherence theory and previous studies ofsyntactic linearity and based on the personal practice, the author provides some thesolutions to common sentence problems by demonstrating with examples that aredistinct with typical characteristics of Chinese and English. Being green in this field,the author fully understands how much further studies are need for improving thesentence quality in simultaneous interpreting.
