This report is based on the author's on-spot simultaneous interpreting practice at the 2nd Jinhai Lake World Anti-aging Forum in Beijing. This report focuses on the production failures of Chinese-to-English run-on sentence simultaneous interpreting, characterizes these production failures into three categories and analyzes them based on Gile's effort model. The author further puts forward related coping strategies for run-on sentence interpreting in Chinese-to-English simultaneous interpreting.During the process of interpreting,it was found that the effort saturation, where quick speaking speed, new concepts, information redundancy or run-on sentences came up,led to failures in the target language production. After the forum,by writing down transcript after listening to the recordings of both original speeches and its interpreting, the author found that the most prominent production failures lie in Chinese-to-English run-on sentence interpreting.Based on Gile's Effort Model and analysis of these production failures, the author raised three categories of production failures in Chinese-to-English run-on sentence simultaneous interpreting—failure to identify the subject, failure to grasp the logic and failure to deal with information redundancy. After reviewing these production failures, the author put forward three coping strategies,i.e.syntactic linearity, addition and simplification,to ensure the quality of interpreting in Chinese-to-English run-on sentence simultaneous interpreting.
