Recently, translator’s subjectivity arouses great concern in translation studiesand the role of translator in construction of effective translation has beenre-interpreted. Studies show that the adaptation of translator’s subjectivity exertsincreasingly obvious influence on the quality and value of the translation. Childrenliterature translation, as a branch of literature translation, grants higher requirement onthe translators in view of the specificity of the young readers. Thus, the research onthe subject status of translator in CL translation becomes urgent and important.The translator’s subjectivity includes three aspects, which are embodied in theselection of the source text, understanding of the source text, and producing the targettext.In this thesis, the author adopts the qualitative methods, descriptive methodsand comparative analysis methods in the research. Two Chinese versions of a popularchildren literature work, charlotte’s web, are used as the case study material, to beanalyzed, compared and discussed in attempt to explore the translator’s subjectivityfrom above three manifestations. The result shows that the historical background ofdifferent translators leads to different motivation and purpose of translation; and thedifferent understanding of the source text by different translators leads to adoption ofdifferent translation strategies, which ultimately produce different versions. All ofthese can be attributed to the differentiation of the translator’s subjectivity. Thefinding of the research is expected to enrich the proofs in the role of translatorsubjectivity in CL translation, and to further inspire the translator’s consciousness inadaptation of their subjectivity in target texts.
