A Report On C-E Translation Project Of Diesel Engine Operating Instruction

With science and technology blooming and international communicationsdeepening, Diesel engines, as a major component of the mechanical industry, havebecome very significant in the global trade. As more and more mechanical productsenter into the international market， the Chinese-English translation of mechanicaloperating instruction has been playing a vital role and a high quality of the translationversion is of great necessity.Based on the author’s translation materials of over20,000words of，this reporttakes GPL0483D series diesel engine (hereafter referred as GPL0483D DE) operatinginstruction as the research resource and takes text typology as the theoretical guidance.In the translation process, the author elaborates the structure and significance of theproject, discusses the preparation stage of professional knowledge and standards fortranslating technical terms, describes the process control and challenges in translation.It also proposes translation methods such as conversion, combination, omission anddivision to solve these difficulties. This translation project takes consideration ofcultural value and background information conveying, which successfully introducesparameters, operation, maintenance and daily management of such series of dieselengine to help users familiarize and grasp it more quickly, so as to contribute tofurther study.
