The public poster, a kind of visual language, transmits themes to the public efficiently through artistic symbols such as original pictures, colors, and characters. It is one of spiritual strengths which is capable of solving problems and facilitating the social development of ideology and culture. With the rapid development of society, humans are confronted with many issues such as ecological crisis, food shortage, scarcity of resources and social contradictions. Therefore, as a kind of visual language which can be accepted by people, the public poster bears much more responsibilities to spread positive energy, proper values and harmonious ways of lives. However, under the influences of international functionalization and rationalization in the design field, the public poster is becoming more and more monotonous and rigid in the styles and originalities thus it demands urgent efforts to brainstorm a new creative thinking. Hence the research of originality and performance of the public poster is indispensable and has much social benefits. Meanwhile, based on the research, the author hopes to promote the development of domestic public causes.Great attention has been paid in aspects of the public poster research such as graphic design and original thinking. Nevertheless, it is rare to combine the research of original thinking and performance. Therefore, in order to avoid the repetitive study, this paper puts more emphasis on the research of original thinking and performance.This paper concludes four parts. Part one is the design of public poster which introduces the definitions and summarizes the development process especially our domestic public poster causes. Part two explains the significance of original design to the public poster. The thinking modes of original design have two aspects, namely, transforming associative thinking and reversal associative thinking which are able to make the thinking of designers more creative and active. Part three is the body of this thesis which discuses the techniques and performance of original design in the public poster. The techniques of original design are the use of figurative language, symbol, exaggeration and humor. The performance of original design concludes isomorphism, isomerism, reconstruction, deconstruction, imitation, implied meaning, and collage. Though the deep analysis of the examples of excellent public posters, the paper will guide the designers to create his or her own design concept and make them better known of the performance of the original design. In the last part, based on the three public posters designed by the author, the paper puts the theories into practice and makes a record of the whole process which provides the powerful theoretical support to the paper.Combining words and pictures, the study quotes a large number of the public posters at home and abroad to analyze the various performance of originality. Because of different purposes and perspectives, the classifications of the performance of the original design may differ from other studies. In a word, the study is devoted to promote the development of the public poster and provides better service to the public benefits.
