A Practice Report On The Sentence Reconstruction In English-Chinese Translation Of The Shipbuilding Contract

As an international port city, port construction has far-reaching influences on thedevelopment of Dalian. Ships are indispensable resources to port. It is what makes theconstruction of ships has a profound significance. Shipbuilding Contract is anagreement of how the builder constructs the ship and how much the buyer should payfor the ship. It shows that the Shipbuilding Contract makes a crucial and regulationrole in shipbuilding.The Shipbuilding Contract is an important contract document and hasfar-reaching influences on both parties. So, the translation of it has a decisive effect.In the Shipbuilding Contract, there are some complex sentences with multipleattributives. But the language expression habits in Chinese requests concise and clear,no repetition, and with close logical relation and distinct sections. Because of this, thetranslator should reconstruct the sentences on the basis of the expression habits whiletranslating, in order to accord with the expression habits of target language andexpress the meaning of original text precisely. The process can makes the translatormaster all kinds of the skills of reconstruct the sentences in English-Chinesetranslation, such as reorganizing the word order, types of sentences and voice.When reviewing the whole practice process, the report focuses on describing thepre-translation preparation period, tells what and how the author prepare in thepre-translation preparation period, and explains the importance of this period. Thereport presents both the original text and the author’s translation text in the appendixlists after the main report.Through the task description and analysis, the author chose the sentencereconstruction in English-Chinese Translation of Shipbuilding Contract as theresearch object, analyzed the issue of sentence reconstruction in translation from threeaspects, which is word order reorganization, types of sentences reorganization andvoice reorganization.Based on the brief introduction of the task process and the analysis of thistranslation task, the author drew the following conclusions:1. The importance of thepre-translation preparation. The level of sufficiency of the pre-translation preparationhas a major impact on the process of the translation task;2. The use of sentencerestruction in English-Chinese translation. Different expression method in Chinese and English makes sentence restruction become a widely used translation skill inEnglish-Chinese translation.
