| For long, dialect has always been a major challenge for interpreters at work, especiallythe Pakistani English being quite an obstacle of listening comprehension due to its demandingcharacteristics. Failures occur from time to time, which constitutes the motive of thisinterpretation report focusing on the coping strategies of Pakistani English on the basis of thefirst-hand materials drawn from the precious experience of the reporter herself.The first part of the report draws the conclusion through the video of the interpreter’sperformance and existing research on this subject that Pakistani English is a challenge forinterpreters in real case scenarios sometimes even inducing failures. Thus leading to thesecond part on the finding of coping strategies. Online or through telephone five seniorinterpreters have been interviewed in a bid to find inspiration and finally seven strategies wererendered. With the purpose to manage objective and systematic evaluation over thesestrategies, the reporter, in her third part, carefully analyzed all these strategies in light of therenowned Interpretive School of Translation Theory. In such case, merits of them are madeclear through this inquiry into effective coping strategies.This interpretation report imparts that there has not been any perfect interpretation theoryas there is no such thing about flawless coping strategies. With the cause of interpretationproceeding, strategies and theories of higher levels are to emerge while the reporter cancontinue to explore. |
