In1672，Wang Shizhen followed the emperor Kangxi ’s command,presided over the Sichuan provincial examination. He started from Beijing, by the QinShu plank into Sichuan, along the Yangtze River Three Gorges returned to Beijing, viaHebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Chongqing, Hubei, Henan seven provinces. He wrote355poems in this experience, called the poetry of Shudao.The poetry of Shudao is one of the most important poems of Wang Shizhen. In theaspect of content and art, it has achieved outstanding achievement, and it is called thebest poems of Wang Shizhen.Firstly, its content is very rich, which includes three aspects of natural scenery,cultural landscape and memory of relatives and friends, and concerns about nature,society, history, culture and so on. It reflects natural and human landscapes of the Bashuarea in early Qing Dynasty fully and truly, and enriches the historical records. It hasgreat historical and cultural value. At the same time, it reflects the diversity of WangShizhen’s Poems and the ability of his control of the poetic genre.Secondly, the main artistic style of The poetry of Shudao is vigorous. It differencesfrom other poems of Wang Shizhen, which show the style of Qingyuan. Investigate itsreason, Wang Shizhen was affected by the magnificent natural environment, the fadingsocial status of Sichuan, the poet’s bereavement and reference from Du Fu’s Poetry. Andit reflects the superb writing skills of Wang Shizhen.Lastly, the poetry of Shudao also has certain influence on later generations. ShenDeqian praised the poetry of Shudao. Shen Deqian is a poet in Qing Dynasty whoadvocated "Style". Shen Deqian edited many poems from the poetry of Shudao intothe Poems collection of Qing Dynasty, because he thought these poems could be used asmodel of “Style”.Through the analysis on the poetry of Shudao, we can know more about thecontent, style of Wang Shizhen’ poems, and make a comprehensive and objective evaluation, and do further research to the development trend of poetry in the early QingDynasty.
