Although the villain may not beas popular as the positive role, it plays an important role in the film. The villainis a very significant and indispensable part in the creation of film and animationmovie. The quality of the animation movie is directly affected by the quality ofthe villain creation.There are even mature theory and rich experience for role making in playsand films, which lays a solid foundation for cartoon characters making. Since theanimation is a special artistic form, the role making for cartoon character is morevirtual and suppositive than actors’ natural performance. The role making ofdifferent cartoon characters will be improved and completed by artistictechniques such as point, line, plane and color. Therefore, it is very necessaryand urgent to explore the villain creation in animation which is weak at presentbased on the theories of plays and films combining the specific expression waysof animation. Actually, there are certain regularity and particularity for the villain,but currently the theory study for the villain in animation is still weak and nosystematic theoretical construction. It is concluded that it’s worth studying andresearching deeply and systematically on how to create the villain in animation.This essay starts with different characters of figures, uses a lot of cases ofanimation movies to make a comparison analysis and cluster research on maincharacters creation in the aspects of appearance, clothing, expression,temperament and language of three main types of villain (the devils, the rude andthe insidious) in American animation movies. It also preliminarily discusses thesimilarities of different types of characteristics of the villain in the movies basedon the study of difference and finally provides some constructive suggestion forthe villain creation for Chinese animation according to the development tendency of the villain creation in the American animation movies, hoping tomake some efforts and contributions to the development of Chinese animation.
