A Study Of Local Gazetteers In Jiangxi Province From Tongzhi To Tuangxu Years Of Qing Dynasty

Local gazettee is a very important literature information about local history. Ithas important reference value for the understanding of the local historical context andthe relationship between the internal and local governments. Since the TaipingHeavenly Kingdom downfallen, the rapid rise of Jiangxi local gentleman forces madethem show more and more discourse demands in thetreatment and the choice oflocal affairs. Therefore, local gazettee becomes an important position for whichofficial and local gentleman competing hotly. It is thus clear that some componentssuch as power, ideas and construction implied behind the local gazettee, which is theepitome of the integrated change andfunction of social places. This paper focus on thegeneral situation, characteristics, organization and funding of local gazetteers inJiangxi province from Tongzhi to Guangxu years of Qing Dynasty, in order to offer anexamination of the role of the local gentleman in local gazettee from anumber of angles, then highlight its vital effect for the building of the local image andobtain some historical enlightenment from it.
