The Study On Dayao Place Names From The Angle Of Cultural Linguistics

There is nothing to call without name.The name of a place is the product of positive interaction between human beings andnature, including people’s being contained in nature and remaking nature.Dayao county of Yunnan province is a small place，but its culture has diversity andcomplexity.Applying the theories of cultural linguistics and basing on mathematical statistics，this paper has carried on a comprehensive study on name system of place of Dayao. Thestudy contains the results produced from not only the angle of linguistic analysis, butcultural connotation.Full text are divided into five parts:Part1: Giving a general introduction on outline of geography and history of Dayao,as well as spreading out twelves points of function extracted from name system of placeof Dayao.Part2: Explicitly analyzing name system of place of Dayao from the angle oflinguistics. Firstly on phonetics, analyzing syllable forming and collocation of initials,finals and tones, and trying to construct a phonetic system of Dayao; secondly onlexicology，associating with history and geography of Dayao, carrying on studying basedon word usage and the origin of vocabulary; Thirdly on morphology, manly studying onstructural style of place name and word-formation; Fourthly on rhetoric, focusing onparsing figures of speech of people’s nominating the place.Part3: This part consists of two sections: firstly on investigating culturalconnotation of place name of Dayao with analyzing relations such as between regionalculture and historical heritage and social culture and so forth; Secondly on motivation ofnominating a place with analyzing relations such as between geographical features andancestral idea and natural resources and so on.Part4: Putting forward opinions and suggestions about project of collection,protection and innovation of place name within Dayao. Part5: Giving this paper a conclusion: illustrating substantive work of this paper,summarizing academic achievements of this research and holding that there are betterresearch capabilities for finding more details from name system of place of Dayao.
