| Based on the translation practice (English to Chinese) of The Campus Guide: YaleUniversity, this thesis will discuss the translation of demonstrative pronouns. Thethesis will select some typical examples in the author’s personal translation practiceand tries to analyze and discuss the similarities and differences between English andChinese demonstrative pronouns. Thereafter, the thesis will summarize somesuggestions when dealing with translation of demonstrative pronouns.Demonstrative pronouns are commonly seen in both English and Chinese. Theycan replace many kinds of words, in this way, it helps avoid the excessiveness andrepetition of language use. As a result, such property determines it as a languagecomponent of great importance. To conduct a comparatively comprehensive researchof it, this thesis tries to discuss its translation in three dimensions.The thesis consists of four parts. Part one will briefly introduce the definition ofdemonstrative pronouns, its uses and how to classify them. Part two will make anintroduction to introductory contexts and explain why the thesis chooses it as theresearch target. Part three is a thorough analysis of typical examples in the translationpractice of demonstrative pronouns. The last part will be a conclusion and willprovide some suggestions for future translation practice of demonstrative pronouns. |
