Simultaneous interpretation with text is a norm in international conferences and theinterpreter can use the text to better prepare himself/herself for the interpretation. Butthe speaker often makes partial deviation during the speech instead of sticking to the text. Therefore, the influence of this phenomenon on the quality of the translation and thecoping tactics are both very important subjects, and the result of this research can help theinterpreter to gain better performance. For the purpose of the research, this thesis chooses the Effort Model of Daniel Gileto be the theoretical framework and uses it to forecast the influence of the speaker’spartial deviation on the interpreter’s performance and the tactics that can be used by theinterpreter. After that, the author conducts an experiment and confirms the theoreticalhypotheses through analysis of the experiment results and the questionnaires. And thethesis comes to the following conclusions:In English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation with text, when there is a partialdeviation during the speech, the quality of the interpretation will suffer. For example, there will be errors, accidental omissions, fragmented sentences, etc. Among the threetypes of the partial deviation, what makes the quality of the interpretation suffers most isadding contents, next comes restructuring sentences, and omission comes last. Among thepredicted tactics, generalization and deliberate omission are used consciously by theinterpreter and are very convenient; extending EVS is a subconscious response ratherthan a tactics.
