| This is a translation project report of Sustainable Living Explained written by American writer Sarah Burke. The concept of sustainable living lifestyle is relatively blank, so translation of such texts is necessary. As the environment problems are increasingly serious, environmental protection has been put under the global spotlight. The booklet the translator translated is not talking about environmental protection from a macroscopic perspective. The booklet teaches reader how to protect environment from daily life based on the family unit. The booklet talks about what is the sustainable living lifestyle and how to follow the lifestyle in ten chapters. The concept “ sustainable living lifestyle†has got increasingly popular in some developed countries; however, this area is relatively blank in China, so translation of such text is necessary. The report is divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, the translator introduces the project background, targets and significance. The second chapter focuses on the introduction of the original text. The translator summarizes the difficulties and methods in translation in the third chapter. To be more specifically, the original text is informative text. The translator’s purpose is to transfer the original text to the most under the guidance of functional theories. The translation of long sentences is also discussed and finally it goes to the translation of passive voice sentences. The last chapter is a conclusion. The translator learned a lot from this project and had a better understanding on both Chinese and English. |
