This is report on the project of translating African History(Chapters 6 and 7)from The Very short Introduction series. And this project was conducted under theguidance of Skopos Theory.This translation report is written on the basis of a detailed analysis of thelinguistic features of the source language. The translator has adopted the propertranslating strategy and techniques. Multiple examples have been used to elaboratethe use of Skopos theory.This report consists of four chapters: Chapter one lists the basic informationof the translation project, including project background, objectives and significance.Chapter two elaborates the research background including the introduction ofSkopos theory and basic information about the author, the main contents of thesource language and the characteristics of the source language. Chapter Three isthe body of the whole project, it introduces the translation difficulties and methods.The difficulties lie in the understanding of some terminologies, proper nouns andlong and difficult sentences. The methods include conversion amplification andsplitting. Chapter Four concludes with the lessons and unresolved problems in thetranslation project.
