A Report On The Proofreading In The Translation Project Of Nanjing Electronic Map Geographical Names

The important productive positions in a complete translation process mainly include project manager, translator and proofreader. This report belongs to proofreader internship report of the important position internship report. This paper is based on the "Nanjing Electronic Map Landmark Translation" project, which the writer took part in during the summer vacation internship in Nanjing Oriental Translation Institute.This report first reviews the project background and the early-stage preparations of the proofreading task; then generalizes the main factors that influence the translation quality from four perspectives, summarizes the utilization of tools and resources during the proofreading and classifies the error types and analyzes the solutions; and then attaches the feedback and evaluation of the project; at last, reviews the deficiencies of the project and discusses the enlightenment on the future study and work.The translation of landmarks belongs to proper noun translation which has a high standard for accuracy and consistency. This proofreading report mainly concerns error correction, traslation standard execution and relevant tools and techniques that are available. The quality control of translation should be throughout the entire project and attention should be paid to the project teamwork so as to insure the translation consistency.
