| This paper is a report on a translation project based on the chapter three of Abrupt Impacts of Climate Change: Anticipating Surprisess that was co-authored by Committee on Understanding and Monitoring Abrupt Climate Change and Its Impacts, Board on Atmospheric Sciences and Climate, Division on Earth and Life Studies and National Research Council. The main content of the original text consists of the introduction of abrupt climate change, abrupt change in the ocean, the atmosphere and ecosystem and so on and possible impacts of climate change to human society.This translation report project includes four parts. Firstly, it conducts an analysis of the background, aim as well as the structure of the project. Secondly, the author’s information, together with the main idea and the features of its language of the article, is researched. Thirdly, under the guidance of informative text translation theory, difficult points and the corresponding methods, such as, free translation, division and restructuring, were discussed in order to produce fluently natural translation that adapts to Chinese readers. Lastly, a reflection concerning the lessons learned and problems-to-be-solved is given. |
