“Climate change” is a long-term challenge facing all human-being,which influences their survival and development.This translation report aims at the excerpt of Chapter 15 of the Climate Change 2022: IMPACTS,ADAPTATION AND VULNERABILITY.The source text is a typical informational text with the characteristics of wide coverage,many terms,strong logic and complex sentences.Thus this translation report is of high value in research.Guided by the Translation Shifts Theory of the famous translation theorist Catford,this translation report probes into the English-Chinese translation of informational texts.According to case analysis,level shifts and category shifts are discussed.Given the various asymmetrical relations in the English-Chinese translation,this translation report probes into the structure shifts through active voices in English and passive voices in Chinese,post-positive attributive in English and pre-positive attributive in Chinese and so on.Based on the lexical difficulties of source language and target language,this translation report probes into the class shifts.This thesis probes into the unit shifts in terms of the long and difficult sentences in the source text.Through this translation report,the author has had a more systematic knowledge of the features of informational texts and summarized the difficulties in translation.The author also explored the translation skills and methods of informational texts through specific examples,combining with Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory.It is suggested that through the translation practice,on the one hand,more theoretical application reference for the translation of informational texts can be gained.On the other hand,the author also hopes that through the translation of the pioneering climate report,more attention from the Chinese government and people to climate change can be paid,to have a better idea of the guiding policies of the United Nations.In particular,it can provide reference for coastal areas to adapt to climate change and policy making.
