| As a frequently used adverb, "YOU"has various meanings and usages in Chinese.During Chinese teaching, we often come across different mistakes made by foreign students. Based on the vocabulary depth theory, mental representation theory for polysemy and second language acquisition theory, this thesis is trying to do a closer research through combined approaches of case study, inter-language analysis and questionnaire, etc. to reveal the mental status and developing process of examinees’ knowledge of the word.The thesis is comprised of 6 chapters:Chapter 1:Preface. The overview of the study as well as a literature review which includes both the strengths and disadvantages of earlier study.Chapter 2:The theoretical basis and hypothesis based on the vocabulary depth theory, mental representation theory for polysemy and second language acquisition theory.Chapter 3:The categorization of meanings and usages of "YOU"Chapter 4:The case study. In this chapter we analyzed the process of the case study in four stages and illustrated the inter-language developing process with a keen focus.Chapter 5:The Contrastive analysis between Japanese and English-speaking examinees in four aspects.Chapter 6:A brief summary. Advise some teaching tips and state the disadvantages of the study. |
