"Xin Lun" is one of the most important books in the period of Eastern Han Dynasty, which has a direct impact on the creation of Wang Chong’s "Lun Heng". Although the original book is lost, later scholars have made great efforts to conduct a lot of compilation work. Then, "Xin Lun" has formed a relatively complete compiled version. Because of these great efforts, now we can still catch a glimpse of social life, ideology tendency, literary characteristics and so on from "Xin Lun".From the view of literature, the proofreading lay the foundation for the systematic study of the "Xin Lun". Among the four current compiled versions, Zhu Qian’s version and the version of Shanghai people’s Publishing House in 1977 are more complete. By the comparison of the two versions, I find there are big controversies in"Li Shi", "Qian Fei", "Bian Huo", "Qiu Fu", "Yan Ti," "Zheng Jing" and other contents. In addition, the "source"of including materials between the two versions are different. "Yan" mainly based on the books such as "Ti Lin", "Qunshu Zhiyao" and some contents partly referred to the books of Tang and Song Dynasties official books such as "Yiwen leiju", "Beitang Shuchao", "Taiping Yulan". Different from "Yan", "Zhu" is mainly based on "Tiwen leiju", "Beitang Shuchao","Taiping Yulan", partly referring to "YiLin", "Qunshu Zhiyao". The reason why there are such differences, probably this is because "Yan" is mainly referred to books which represents the official authority, not consult evidences of other materials, while Zhu Qianzhi verified a lot of official and private books and materials, and then compiled the book.On the basis of these literature proofreading,! want to do the further study of "Xin Lun" which based on "Zhu" from the social perspective, to explore the various social connotations in detail and to examine "politic visions" and "economic strategies" and "academic tendency" which "Xin Lun" drew. Born in the ever-changing time, Huan Tan, the writer of "Xin Lun", reflected imperial power falling into others’hands, superstitious into Doctrine Fangxian and Taoism, talented people not being used in important position, a group of mediocre people being used, severe laws and tortures, worse and worse political situation. These things reveal the polarization between the rich and the poor resulting from land annexation and heavy taxes, extravagant and dissipated despots, also expressing his academic oppose and attitude to unfounded and superstition thought. From the perspective of literature study, "Xin Lun" shows different functions with different styles of literary expression. It advocates argumentation and continues the early Western Han Dynasty political argumentation tradition, having a very strong sense of reality and strong misery consciousness. The argumentation of "Xin Lun" mainly involves two aspects:one is to reflect history and lead to new time, history regarded as a mirror. The other is to resist foreign aggression and safeguard the unity of the stability of the border. It lays emphasis on "short novels", more specifically evaluating to the novel’s form, content, status and role. At the same time it further highlights the importance of "town talk" or "street gossip". Through the function of fiction, it gradually forms close contact between self-cultivation, family harmony and " self-cultivation, family harmony, country management and world peace" of the Confucian. In view of literature, Huan Tan is against "gorgeous article" and advocates the quality with practical value and connotation but not modified ornate language, forming a plain style. The performance practices of "Xin Lun" are various and especially good at the irony argumentation, using contrast and having strong appeal to readers.
