The Development And Criticism Of Wittgenstein’s Language View

Early Wittgenstein argued that the thought(the significant proposition) and proposition is a logical picture of the corresponding structure of the world. The meaning of a proposition is the description of the situation, but as a truth function of elementary propositions, the propositional logical form has a transcendental significance. Because of the contradiction between reality and logic set of elementary propositions, and the usage of the language diversity, Wittgenstein gradually regarded language as language- game that language and activities are intertwined. The language- game has family resemblance, and its significance lies in its usage.Early Wittgenstein argued that our language should conform to the logical grammar rules,and only be used to described the case of the world. Logic and ethics are not in the world, cannot be said but showed in the world. they are the limits and the conditions of the world, and reconcile with each other in philosophy. Later Wittgenstein found language- game free conforms to the grammar rules, and the rules are based on the life forms. the common human behavior is not only the basic consistency of language games, but also constitute with language- game, so there is no private language.Although there were some differences in the first and late stage, Wittgenstein always had the negative attitude to the traditional philosophy, and proposed the task of philosophy in both negative and positive aspects. Early Wittgenstein firstly regarded the philosophy as "critique of language", it is to draw the limit of language and to clarify the philosophical proposition is meaningless. And then he pointed out a life attitude in silence, by passing over in the absolutely valuable action, we will achieve reconciliation between the will and the world. Late Wittgenstein realized the philosophy problems arise from the misunderstanding of grammar, mislead by similarity in surface grammar of language expression and neglect the deep grammar. Philosophy actually stem from a mental illness, so the task of new philosophy is to treat the illness. Positive philosophy is to provide descriptive overview of language usage.
