Between the end of Song Dynasty and the beginning of Yuan Dynasty, the Bai ethnic minorities in Yun Nan Province were forced to be exiled to Sangzhi County, Hunan Province amid the turmoil of wars about seven hundred years ago. Through the long history, they have created splendid material wealth and spiritual civilization. From their dancing and singing art, it’s not difficult to find that they have well preserved valuable cultural customs and religious belief passed down from their ancestors, which is great asset to Bai ethnic minorities. It helps them better understand and inherit their culture."Guzhang Dance" is a kind of traditional dance which is popular among Bai ethnic minorities only in Sangzhi County, Hunan Province. It is also quite representative of the national intangible cultural heritage. The writer of this essay has conducted many "field research" to get the newest and the most authentic data. This paper shows a comparatively comprehensive analysis of this kind of art in terms of background music, dance forms, performing occasions and forms, dancing characteristics and so on. Moreover, it also explores the diversity of dance inheritance and cultural connotation.
