| Press conference is one of the most direct ways to explain government policies, important issues and latest information in China. Usually, China’s government press conferences are held by the State Council Information Office (SCIO). In each press conference, SCIO will invite spokesperson from relevant ministry to introduce the latest developments of the sector he or she works in and answer questions from Chinese and foreign journalists. In most cases, interpreting service is provided to facilitate communication between the spokesperson and foreign journalists.This thesis is a report on simulated practice of interpreting of SCIO press conference, which is about the performance of China’s industrial and communications sectors in the first three quarters of2012. The Report consists of five parts. The first part introduces press conference interpreting, project background, significance of the Report and layout of the Report. The theoretical pillar comes next. In this part, Interpretive Theory and its core idea of Triangular Model are expounded to guide the whole process of interpreting practice. The third part focuses on how to prepare press conference interpreting in advance based on project background and features of press conference. The fourth part analyses interpreting tactics, which is the essence of this Report. Based on Interpretive Theory, the author employs several strategies such as omission, amplification, conversion, adjustment and reconstruction to deal with interpretation difficulties. The last part summarizes the project. |
