Based on the background description of Loeffier Township Treaty, which hasregion-oriented cultural connection with and characters’ cultural and psychological structureto White Deer Plain, this paper by analyzing and interpreting characters’ depiction and theirfate figures out under specific cultural and psychological structure influence, the inevitabilityof characters’ fates and destinies, and demonstrates White Deer Plain’s theme to discoverethic destiny. The paper is divided into four parts, as follows:In preface, thesis significance is touched upon, which tries to explore the diversifiedpersonalities and tragic fates of different characters in White Deer Plain by adopting themethods of documents and resources references and analyzing cultural and psychologicalstructure of characters, and finally shows ethnic secrete history and its fate.The first chapter precisely draws a picture about Chinese typical cultural phenomena,like Guan Studies, Agricultural Culture, Mysterious Culture, etc. According to theregion-oriented cultural perspective of Guanzhong Plain, where the story took place, thischapter depicts the regional and cultural causes for this book. It is against the backdrop ofagricultural culture that White Deer Plain was unfolded, and thus was characterized withprofound and typical local trace. It is inevitable to understand the geography and culture ofGuanzhong Plain, and then carry out analysis to figure out the invisible mentality of localpeople of the White Deer Plain, also know as cultural and psychological structure, first,before getting to know how the local people faced historical changes and their living status.So it can be concluded Guanzhong regional culture has a deep impact on the composition ofWhite Deer Plain.In the second chapter, the paper allows readers to further understand the people’scultural and psychological structure, say Loeffier Township Treaty, is virtually the textbook ofConfucius after this thoughts have been methodized and popularized tailored to countrymenthrough the knowledge of Loeffier Township Treaty formation and evolvement, its textinterpretations and evolvement from Loeffier Township Treaty to Township Treaty, theexplanations of one of Township Treaty’s features focusing of both benevolence andpunishment. To analyze closely how this Rules that had been precisely remembered andfollowed by its dweller for hundred of years suffered from various hits and challenges such as commercial culture, anti-Confucian activists, emerging new thoughts, and degraded personin charge, this chapter provides clues for characters’ cultural and psychological researches inthe following parts.In the third chapter, the analysis of the inevitability of characters’ depictions and theirtragic fates from cultural and psychological structure is made. This part, based on the analysisof regional culture in Chapter One and analysis of cultural and psychological structure inChapter Two, digs into the profound reasons behind character’s words and deeds with the helpof test analysis. As a loyal executor of traditional Confucian, why did he embody bothbenevolence and grimness? Since he respected virtue and justice, why did he behave in anopposite way? He looked up to morality, why did he commit unethical deeds? Why did HeiWa, a character demonstrating rebelling features at an early age, after experience ups anddowns in his life like being agricultural movement leader, revolution soldier, head of a gang,finally chose amnesty and joined in security group, and went back to his hometown--theWhite Deer Plain. What kind of changes his mental world has undergone? Tian Xiao’er, whowas leading a good life at first, used Sex as her revolt tool to challenge the bottom line offeudal linage society and morality, just because she did not reconcile to be a health-preservingtool to Juren Guo, top examiner at provincial level for imperial exam, and her pursuit ofhappy life with Hei Wa was not accepted by others. So why did she end up being killed? Whydid Yao Peng’s wife, who respected and follow feudal ethnic and moral rules, head formadness in a marriage wholly arranged and decided by her parents. Young as her life was, theabrupt extermination of it will expose how feudal ethical code and virginity would engulfhumanity. This chapter will give detailed answers to all these questions.
