ESP,short for "English for Specific Purposes", is an approach to Englishteaching to particular subjects or career, Such as ETP (English for tourismpurpose), ECP(English for computer purpose), EMP(English for medicalpurpose) and so on. ESP aims to meet the English learners‘specific needs,whose most significant characteristic is learner-centered as well as practicalapplications. We offer ESP course in different majors in our school, but theteaching efficiency is not good. Students have negative attitude towards ESPand cannot use ESP knowledge in reality. According to the current situation,there is something wrong with the teaching method, so it‘s necessary toexplore an approach which can meet students‘needs. while "Anchoredinstruction" emphasize the authenticity and practicality. we should try best tocreate a practical and real English learning environment for students andto maximum improve the practical in English learning, so as to get thepurpose: to learn in order to practice."Anchored instruction" stick to theprinciple of "student centered" which is efficient to change students frompassive learners into active participants.The author make a tentative study on The application of "anchoredInstruction" in ESP teaching in secondary vocational school,taking "Englishfor Tourism" as an example. The author chooses60students major in tourismto take part in the experiment, including30in the experimental class and30in the controlled class. Pre-test, post-test, questionnaire, interviews and otherresearch methods are used in the experiment. Experimental results show thatafter applying the "anchored Instruction" in ESP Teaching, the students in theexperimental class have achieved the following achievements: the studentscan develop positive attitudes towards ESP learning and improve the ability ofusing ESP to be ready for their future job.
