In vocational schools,the main objective of English teaching is to cultivate students' ability of English language application in the future work place environment.Reading is an important basis for language input.It plays an important role in developing students' ability of English language application.However,the current situation of English reading teaching in vocational schools is not optimistic.Because of the influence of various factors,traditional teaching method is still adopted.In traditional reading class,teacher is the center of the teaching.It mainly focuses on vocabulary and grammar teaching and leads to poorer grades and less interest.Therefore,how to improve students' reading ability and reading interest has become an urgent problem to be solved.Teachers should actively explore a student-centered teaching model,and anchored instruction is highly emphasized as a more mature teaching model.Anchored instruction is a mature teaching model based on the Constructivism theory and the Situated Cognition theory,which is a student-centered method emphasizing situated teaching and paying attention to cultivate students' autonomous learning ability,cooperative learning ability and language application ability.Its effectiveness has been confirmed in the related domestic and international researches.It is mainly applied to mathematics,physics and other fields of science.The researches mainly focus on theoretical study of English teaching in primary schools and middle schools.But English reading teaching of vocational schools involves less.So the study aims to solve the following three questions.1.Can the application of anchored instruction model to English reading teaching improve students'reading achievements?2.Can anchored instruction arouse students' English reading learning interest in vocational schools?3.What are the students' attitudes to the application of anchored instruction model in Experiment Class?The 106 students from two parallel five-year system classes of Grade 2 of Nursing Department of Hanzhong Vocational school are chosen as research subjects.One class is selected as Experimental Class(EC)and trained by anchored instruction model,while the other class is selected as Control Class(CC)with the traditional teaching method.The experiment(February,2017-June,2017)lasted 19 weeks.The author collected data by the means of tests,questionnaires and interviews and analyzed data by using SPSS.20 to study the feasibility of anchored instruction in vocational school English reading class.After one semester's teaching,it indicates that anchored instruction is helpful to enhance the students'reading proficiency.And also finds that the achievements of English reading in the experimental class are significantly higher than those of the control class.The results of questionnaires and interview from experimental class show that anchored instruction method not only stimulates students' reading interest,but also cultivate their abilities of independent learning and cooperative learning.Compared with the traditional teaching method,anchored instruction model has achieved good effect and has been accepted by students.
