In daily life, we often use the verb-object structure “V ge N”, such as “chige fan”,“guang ge jie”. We find “ge” here generally can neither mean a number norshow the number of “N”. It is just limited in this “VN” structure. Therefore, this paperstudies the special “V ge N” structure with “ge” in the middle whereas restricting thewhole verb-object structure. Based on the analysis on this special verb-objectstructure, and Chomsky’s generative grammar theory, this paper focuses on theanalysis of the generation of the special verb-object structure “V ge N” and itssyntactic and semantic functions. The paper is divided into six parts, and from Chapter Two to Chapter Four is themain part.Chapter One the introduction, describes the previous studies on the special use of“V ge N”, based the classification and comparison with previous studies, this paperdemonstrates a new classification criteria and a new research area. Meanwhile, thereis a simplified instruction of the basic theories used in this paper and a presentation ofthe research ideas and corpus sources.Chapter Two analyzes the composition of the special verb-object “V ge N”structure, and classifies this structure according to the constituents, semantic andstructural relations.Chapter Three, with the analysis of both the ordinary verb-object structure “Vge N” and the special one, also the process of the transformation from Structure D toStructure S, explains the reason that although it is in the middle,“ge” can restrict thewhole verb-object structure in the special “V ge N” structure.Chapter four analyzes the syntactic and semantic features of the special verb-object structure “V ge N”, and emphatically introduces the contexts of thisstructure with both specific meaning and nonspecific reference. In the epilogue, it summarizes the views and conclusions of the paper and pointsout the inadequacies of this article.
