The Research Of Measuring Methods Of Mental Illness Implicit And Explicit Stigma And Their Association

Stigma is the public’s negative attitude towards certain social groups which have some characteristics, it’s made up of negative stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination.Many people affected by mental illness in the world.Psychological disease been stigmatized generally appear in today’s world and cultures. People with psychological disease not only suffer from mental illness painful at the same time, but also under the degeneration, exclusion and discrimination of the public in daily life.This brings the serious negative effect for personal development and treatment and and related groups.Currently mental illness stigma is one of the most important problem in the mental health field.So, researching the measure method of mental illness stigma, discuss mental illness stigma of implicit and explicit stigma relationship is necessary.Although previous researchers made some research on mental illness implicit stigma and explicit stigma measuring method,but there is still inadequate: First, the investigators always tend to think mental illness implicit stigma as a whole. There is no clear definition for the composition.Secondly, when assess the component of explicit stigma,the researchers lack of unified measuring tool.Third,when use of traditional implicit association test to evaluate mental illness implicit stigma, most attribute words lack of representation.Fourth, due to the differences of test materials,the relations between the mental illness implicit stigma and explicit stigma is unable to make objective evaluation.Aiming at the shortcomings of the above,this study designs as the following.First,researchers prepare the semantic difference scale of psychological disease from the dimensions of cognitive appraisal, emotional experience and behavior.Using the method of factor analysis, internal consistency coefficient, structure validity to test the validity and reliability.Then, using the projects of semantic difference scale as attribute words of SCIAT, to assess individual implicit cognitive evaluation, emotional experience and behavior towards people with mental illness.In the end,respectively from the cognitive appraisal, emotional experience, behavior from three aspects,researchers investigate the relationship between mental illness explicit stigma and implicit stigma by using correlation analysis and regression analysis.Through the research can be found:(1) semantic semantic difference scale of psychological disease has good validity and reliability.(2)mental illness implicit stigma is made up of cognitive evaluation, emotional experience and behavior.(3)on the outer level, college students’ evaluation towards people with mental illness are negative, but college students’ emotional experiences towards people with mental illness are neutral, behavior is positive.(4)in the implicit measurement, college students’ cognitive evaluation and emotional experience towards patients with mental illness are negative.however college students’ behavior towards people with mental illness is neutral.(5)the relationship between the cognitive evaluation of implicit and explicit stigma of mental illness has a significant correlation. But there are not significant correlation between two kinds of emotional experience and behavior components.
