This is a project report on the translation of The Handbook of Hymen and other five short stories in A Short Story Collection of O. Henry. The project takes teenagers as target readers and it is expected that the translator can add some special elements of the new era to the translation of the short stories of O. Henry so as to meet the need of teenagers. There have been several versions of Chinese translation of short stories written by O. Henry already. However, all the translations show distinct features of their times and haven’t completely understood and explained the original text. In addition, only by updating the language continuously can classic literary works retain their vitality.During the process of translation, there are three major issues and difficulties, including the translation of character utterances, of cultural information and of humorous language. Based on the translation practice of the author of this project report and creative treason theory, this report tries to present appropriate translation strategies such as addition, liberal translation and domestication combined with analysis of the Chinese version translated by Wang Yongnian.The author expects this report may provide some assistance and reference for the translation of similar texts.
