A Comparative Study Between "Advanced Spoken Chinese"and "Development Chinese-Advanced Speaking Course"

International Chinese teaching materials are the most direct and widely-applied tools in the application of international Chinese teaching. Teaching materials constitute one of the critical factors to teaching results of international Chinese teachers and learning effect of Chinese learners. Hence, a good teaching book is significant to "teaching", "learning" and "research" of Chinese.This paper will make a analytical research in cases of two sets of advanced spoken Chinese teaching materials that are popular and widely applied nowadays, including Developing Chinese:Advanced Speaking Course (version two)(Ⅰ and Ⅱ) and Advanced Spoken Chinese (version two)(ⅠⅡ and advanced).This paper is consisting of six parts:the first part is introduction, which focuses on significance, objective and summary of this research; the second part is a comparative analysis of compiling principles and stylistic rules of the two sets of teaching materials; the third part is a comparative analysis of articles in the two sets of teaching materials from perspective of choice of topic, type of article and language of article; the fourth part is a comparative analysis of the two sets of teaching materials from perspectives of number of new words, degree of new words and annotation of new words; the fifth part is a comparative analysis of the two sets of teaching materials from perspectives of practice setting, quantity of exercises and types of exercises; the sixth part is a comparative analysis of the application of modern educational technologies in the two sets of teaching materials; the seventh part is the conclusion. This paper is aiming at identifying problems existent in compiling of spoken teaching materials in advanced stage and coming up with corresponding suggestions on compiling and teaching through making a comprehensive analysis of statistical data in the above six parts.
