This report, based on the translation of chapter 11 of intercultural communication in contexts, coauthored by Judith N. Martin and Thomas K. Nakayama, provides a general description of the task and its original texts. Guided by the Text Type Theory proposed by the British translation theorist Peter Newmark, this author, focusing on such matters as extension of the lexical meaning, conversion of part of speech, sequence reordering and the cohesion, described the process of the translating task at the levels of vocabulary, sentence, discourse, thinking mode and culture. This translation practice alerted this author to the fact that the selection of translation strategies depends on different text types. Translators should try to keep the target texts faithful, smooth, fluent and natural in accordance with the expressions of the target language and accord the style of the target text with that of the source text.Hopefully this translation report could provide some reference for translators who would translate similar type texts.
