| This report is based upon the English text of Chapter Seven of the Historical Foundations of the Law Relating to Trademarks, written by Frank Schechter of the New York Bar. This Chapter mainly discussed the nature and the functions of trademark as well as discussed how to identify trademark infringement and how to afford redress or relief. While doing the Chinese translation of the said chapter, the author of this report finds that great many nominalization structures permeated the English text. The author attempts to analyze the following three aspects of English nominalization: definition, forms and functions. Then the author puts forward some translation methods and skills to solve the problem that may be encountered in the Chinese translation of the English nominalization, namely, literal translation, conversion of parts of speech and unpacking and packaging. |
