This translation report is based on the E-C translation of Protecting America’s Workers Act,which aims to amend the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.This act has made detailed provisions about the duties of employers, occupational safety and health standards, procedures for enforcement, and penalties. As this Act is representative of Legal English, categorized as a frozen style, the characteristics of objectivity, seriousness and accuracy have entailed the wide use of nominalization in this Act.The author finds these nominalized structures have posed a challenge to this translation,so nominalization has been chosen to be focus of this translation report. In this report, the author summarizes the definition, classification and translation of nominalization based on previous studies. Then, the author discusses the translation methods and techniques of nominalization in the Protecting America’s Workers Act,namely, literal translation, part of speech conversion, addition and division. The author hopes that this report will provide some reference to the translation of nominalization in legal English.
