The Study Of Interrogative Sentences In The Dialect Of Yueyang City In Hunan Provice

The paper takes interrogative sentences in the dialect of Yueyang city as the research object. On the basis of getting rich first language materials from investigation and referring the relevant research fruits of Mandarin, the paper studies interrogative sentences in the dialect of Yueyang city synchronically for the first time by the method of field investigation, introspection method, analytical method, synchronic description method, and synchronic comparison method. In the paper, it mainly describes the content of interrogative mood, interrogative pronouns, interrogative focus, interrogative answers etc. And it also made the analysis and interpretation of that from the related theory, semantic meaning and pragmatic function. In contrast to the interrogative sentences of Mandarin, the features and the rules of interrogative sentences of Yueyang city dialect are described and inferred. The paper is divided into seven chapters:The first chapter is the introduction. It introduces the geography of Yueyang City, Yueyang City dialect, the significance of the research goal, the present situation of the interrogative research in Mandarin and dialect, research methods, data sources and style description. These contents have laid a solid foundation for the research development.The second chapter introduces the characteristics of the Yes-No questions in Yueyang City dialect. It only has the modal Yes-No questions, so the interrogative moods in Yueyang City dialect are very rich. There are eight interrogative moods :�',吧,啊,啵,吗,么,啰, 喃. All of these can be used for the Yes-No questions. They all have their own characteristics in semantics and pragmatics.According to these characteristics it can be divided into the tendency of the Yes-No questions and non orientation of the Yes-No questions. This paper also compares and analyses the differences among the various categories of the interrogative moods and the differences between Yueyang city dialect and Mandarin.The third chapter introduces the characteristics of the referring questions Yueyang city dialect. It not only investigates the referring questions with interrogative pronouns and the non interrogative pronouns referring questions, but also draws comparisons between that and Mandarin. Referring questions with interrogative pronouns focuses on the interrogative pronoun and its use. The non interrogative pronouns referring questions then focuses on the features in grammar, semantics and pragmatics two kinds of format: “NP+ 喃 / �'� ? ” and“ VP+喃/�'�?”.The fourth chapter introduces the characteristics of selective questions in Yueyang city dialect. It focuses on structure forms, ellipsis, semantic features and answers of the two-way choice questions. It also describes and analyses the variety structure forms of multiple choice questions and the mixed sentence. Finally, it compares Yueyang city dialect with Mandarin.The fifth chapter introduces the characteristics of the Positive and negative questions in Yueyang city dialect.It can be divided into repeated type,omitting type and mixed type.The repeated type focuses on the variety of structure forms and different deletion rule.Omitting type is the most frequently used sentence patterns which has two structural forms:“VP冇?”and“VP不啰?”.The mixed type describes and explains the answers and rules of the combination of positive and negative question and Yes-No questions.This part also draws comparisons between Yueyang City dialect and Mandarin.The sixth chapter discusses the special questions in Yueyang City dialect. The special questions include the questions which have the special function of expressions: interjection interrogative sentences, the additional questions, the echo questions. It also includes the rhetorical question which has not expressed the interrogative function. The paper makes a detailed classification of all kinds of questions from the syntactic or pragmatic perspective, and analyses its characteristics.The seventh chapter is the conclusion. It summarizes the innovation and the main point and proposes the inadequacies of the paper and the direction of future efforts.
