In the history of the development of traditional chamber music, Brahms’ s status is beyond doubt. The reason that he is called chamber music master, because he is not only in the conventional chamber music genres, but also in relative terms is not mainstream chamber music genre(e.g. relatively marginalized "Piano Quartet"), and have made significant contribution. Through the excavation and study of this genre, I will reveal the specific contribution of this genre of Brahms has made: Making such a relatively small minority genre really began to mature in the chamber music family is just the object(Brahms’ s first Piano Quartet) of study in this paper. This piece is so strong with the symphonic and contains a huge classic force that out of respect for the inheritance and innovation of classic, Schoenberg in 1937 adapt it to orchestral version works again. Although this article is based on the work(Brahms’ s first Piano Quartet), but I also analyzed the Schoenberg’s succession and continuity in the orchestral version. The article is divided into four parts: The first chapter discusses the formation of chamber music genre and the historical position of "Piano Quartet", from the three aspects: "the retrospective of chamber music genre formation" "Brahms chamber music" and "original and transcription".The second chapter analyzes the "Piano Quartet" using musicological analysis, from the two aspects:Musical analysis andMusic content analysis. In this chapter, I also cites "the concept of absolute music ", and using the three analytical models of absolute music to analyze the work. The third chapter is to highlight Schoenberg’s inheritance and developmen t for the classical work, and then from the compositional techniques(orchestration technology mainly) on embodied both tradition and innovation to analyze this transcription. Finally, I answered a few questions in the history of transcriptions had caused. The fourth part is the conclusion; I make a certain amount of discussion mainly on an eternal topic in the history of Western music of any composer of any age must be faced—— "classic and continuation".
