The Study Of Demonstratives Of Northern Zhuang Dialects Of The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region

In this thesis,i will take Zhuang languages of Donglan,Liujiang,Wumi ng and Du’an as the object of my study,drawing on the theoretical frame work of Diessel(1999) to analyze and research Zhuang languages of the f-our dialect systematically from synchronic(semantics,syntax,pragmatics) le-vel and diachronic grammaticalization level on the basis of analyzing ling-uistic data, thus summarizing commonalities and differences,and concludi-ng the characteristic and the usage of demonstratives of northern Zhuang dialects of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.this thesis consists of seven chapters.Chapter 1, Preface.It makes a brief introduction of the current study of demonstratives and explains the study object,the data sources,the signifi-cance of the research,the theory and methodology of this study.Chapter 2 to Chapter 6 make a comprehensive study of demonstrativ-es of Donglan Zhuang,Liujiang Zhuang,Wuming Zhuang and Du’an Zhua-ng from perspectives of semantic, syntactic, pragmatic use and grammatic-alization.Chapter 7 summarizes the full-text.Preliminary conclusions of this thesis as follows:1.Semantic levels:demonstratives of Dong Lan Zhuang is divided into ni4’proximal’,?de:u1 ’middle’ and te1 ’distal’ demonstratives of Liujiang Zhuang,Wuming Zhuang and Du’ an Zhuang,strictly speaking are divided into ’proximal’and’distal’2.Syntax levels:demonstratives of Donglan Zhuang and Liujiang Zhuang are divided into demonstrative pronouns,demonstrative adjectives and demonstrative adverbs;Wuming Zhuang and Du’an Zhuang are divided into demonstrative pronouns,demonstrative adnominals.3.Pragmatic levels:pragmatic functions of demontratives of Donglan Zhuang are divided into situational use,anaphoric use,discourse deictic cataphora,determinativers,recognitional use and frame-based;pragmatic functio-n of demontratives of Liujiang Zhuang,Wuming Zhuang and Du’an Zhuang are divided into situational use,anaphoric use,discourse deictic, determinativers,rec-ognitional use and frame-based.4.Grammaticalization levels:demonstratives of Donglan Zhuang are generally developed into boundary markers of attributes,sentence connectives, the numeral "one",word-internal elements of complementizers,modal particles at the end of sentences,third person pronouns;demonstratives of Liujiang Zhuang can develop into modal particles at the end of sentences,sentence connectives,third person pronouns;demonstratives of Wuming Zhuang and Du’an Zhuang can develop into boundary markers of attributes,sentence connectives and third person pronouns.Thus there are certain commonalities and differences between Demonstratives of this four dialects at the synchronic and diachronic levels.
