In early days, Republic China was turbulent. The society was intertwined by a variety of social factors, like the turn of the regime, the rise status of emerging class and the civil war. At the same time, with the popular of new schools in the late Qing Dynasty, more and more women choose to study abroad and they were given a new mission. Female wise up, as they bounded by feudal patriarchal society unwillingly, they began to fight to improve their status, to obtain their right, this is woman’s movement. The movement more focus on the woman’s right in law,politics,economy,education and marriage. Among these, marriage is the key, because it had a close relationship with their lifetime happiness. So standing in woman of Republic China’s point of view, this paper try to find out what women had done when they struggled for the autonomy of marriage in the early Republic, and the unavoiding defect after the woman’s movement.The struggle for woman’s marriage free in that time contained marry independent and divorce free. The ways of struggle were plentiful, regardless of the secular, some choose fleeing from the forced marriage, some women choose the law as the tool of fighting,and more worse, suicide was also regarded as the tool to fight. In this long fighting progress, No matter what they armed themselves, they clearly tell others women won’t compromise with the forced marriage and they are their owners. Divorce free movement was reflected by the propaganda of woman’s divorce consciousness, the law also guided woman’s right to divorce. The law’s change was a real big milestone at that time.No doubt, like coins has two sides, everything has advantages and disadvantages, the woman’s struggle also caused many “disaster”, such as woman’s arbitrary when they tried to flee from forced marriage, they may hurt others even themselves. Law also was not perfect,it had “time limitations”. This paper will tell you what women at Republic china suffered when they longing for free and right and the “disaster “they caused.
