Shyness is a kind of complicated psychological state, which is experienced by a great deal of individuals. “Shyness” individual would have a series of reactions in cognition, physiology, emotion and behavior, such as low self-esteem, blushing, sad and afraid of eye contact, etc. A shyness individual is inclined to choose internet to avoid anxiety and nervous experienced during actual association, thus resulted in internet addiction. Social support is spiritual or material aids given by families, friends and generalized others; and demand refers to a kind of unbalanced state within an individual and a stable demand for both internal and external environment. The research shows that shy persons because of their own reason will affect their social support and psychological demand satisfaction, while one of the causes of internet addiction is the satisfaction of social support and psychological demands. Therefore, the relationship between high school student shyness and internet addiction is explored in this paper, social support and psychological demands are added as variables to investigate their functions in the relationship between shyness and internet addiction.The results prove that:1. The shyness level of high-school students present a medium level in whole, which varies depending on the grade and origin of students. The level of grade one students is higher than grade two students, but no obvious difference from grade three students. Rural students are notably shyer than urban students.2. Relevance ratio of internet addiction among high school students is 6.7%. Schoolboys are higher than schoolgirls in salience, tolerance, social comfort and negative consequence dimensionality. The tolerance varies in origin of students. Tolerance of rural students is lower than urban students.3. The social support perceived by high school students are mostly from family, followed by friends and then others. Social support perceived by schoolboys is less than that perceived by schoolgirls. Rural students perceive more family support than urban students. Grade one students perceive more support from others than grade two and grade three students. Urban students perceive more support from others than town students.4. Psychological need gratification of high school students are mostly affiliation need, followed by competence need and then independence need. The degree of independence need among schoolboys is lower than schoolgirls.The degree of independence need gratification among grade one students is obviously higher than grade two students. For the affiliation need and competence need, the degree of gratification among grade one students is much higher than grade two and grade three students. The degree of competence need gratification among urban students is higher than town students and rural students.5. The four variations, namely shyness, social support, psychological need and internet addiction, are relevant to each other. Shyness level is positively predictive to internet addiction, while social support and psychological need are negatively predictive to internet addiction.6. Social support and psychological need respectively have mediating effect to internet addiction, and the chained intermediating effect of social support and psychological need is apparent in shyness and internet addiction, i.e. shyness does not only have direct effect to internet addiction, but also cause indirect effect to internet addiction through the mediating effect of social support and psychological need.
