Anton Bruckner(Joseph Anton Bruckner) is an Austrian composer, whose important works include nine numbered symphonies, three Masses of great value, Te Deum and so on. This article takes polyphonic techniques used in his Mass in D as the subject of the study. The specific content of the work related to the background information, analysis of the polyphonic techniques of the work and the discovery of the inner world of the composer. Based on the content involved, the paper is divided into three parts:The first part introduces the Bruckner’s life and his music; the second part is the main body of the study where the polyphonic techniques is analyzed, summarized and concluded; The third part is the looking at the inner world of Bruckner, which is full of religious feelings. The second part, analysis of Mass in D is the focus of this article. In this article, the discussion of polyphonic techniques used starts from three most common types: contrast polyphony, imitation polyphony and heterophony, then deeper into the “mixed texture” that Bruckner used. Last, the article enters the inner world of Bruckner after the analysis and study.In river of art, from the classical period of Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann Romantic period, Mendelssohn to Brahms, Bruckner, Reger and Frank of late Romance, etc., all composers adhered to strive to safeguard and re-creation of the polyphonic life. Their concern to polyphony made polyphony develop and last we ushered the renaissance of polyphony in the twentieth century. As the view of periodical theory in the development of all things held in materialist dialectics, history in the art of music itself reflects the cyclical nature of spiral development law. Bruckner’s music as a part of polyphony development cycle, acts a significant role. Research on this topic not only gives understanding of the music of Bruckner period, but also gives us a lot of inspiration in the development of the context of polyphony.
