Nowadays, environmental protection has gradually gained an unprecedented significance around the globe. Biodiversity, or biological resource, is the basis for human’s survival and development. Gansu Province, however, due to its economic weakness, has to make some of its biodiversity-conserved projects financed and ask for help from all the sectors of society and the international community. Thus, translation takes an increasingly important role in the success of these projects. This report, based on the C-E translation of the project document named “Management and Protection of Nature Reserves in Gansu Province”, is a description of the whole translation process and reflection after the translation. In the report, the author has summarized the basic features of the source text in terms of wording, sentence pattern and writing style, and identified corresponding translation theory and proper strategies as well as specific methods. The translation process consists of three main steps: pre-translation, while-translation and post-translation. By analyzing the features of the source text’s content, the author classified it into three types- tourism text, political-related text and tables and figures, and defined the whole text as “informative+ vocative” text according to Newmark’s text typology which was the main translation theory adopted in this project. Besides, the author elaborated two translation strategies- communicative translation and semantic translation to solve the problems in the translation process which can be categorized into three main groups, and at the same time, proposed specific and flexible translation methods or techniques illustrated with abundant examples, such as literal translation, free translation, borrowing, imitating, omission and amplification, application of acronyms and abbreviations as well as noun/verbal/adjective phrases, etc, to make sure the semantic and syntactic structures of the target text as closely as that of the original, and as concise and smooth as possible. In the end, the author shared her reflection and ideas during this project. As the report reveals, a professional translator should be equipped with fine professional qualities and effectively combine translation theories with practical experience so as to accomplish the task with high standards and with a comprehensive view of the purpose and function of translation, the safeguarding of client’s interests and the satisfaction of target readers.
