In contemporary China,classic reading education still prevalent and contentious. It has lasted almost 100 years, actually, the essence of this phenomenon is the continue conflict and fusion about “the traditional Chinese scholarship” and “western scholarship”. The article, through the two concepts of “the traditional Chinese scholarship ”and “ western scholarship”, referred to the dispute of ancient and modern, Chinese and western, tradition and modern, nationality and modernity. There shouldn’t exist two distinct stage about “conflicts-fusion”. In fact, conflicts contains fusion, vice versa.Many people think that everyone can bring forward an opinion on the issue of reading classics which indeed have treated the issue excessively simple. Whether to advocate or oppose to read classics one should respond to three questions first: what should the classics include, why or why not to read classics as well as if we read the classics how we should read them? From the three questions we can get to know different views about the issue of reading classics. They seem to be simple but it is quite complicate to answer them. The answers differ from each other in a thousand ways and it involves in a series of ideology and culture issues, Such as that how late Qing dynasty transformed the traditional education ideas; what kind of discussion the Republic of China caused after reading classics; The reason of the decline and rise of reading classics; How to treat classics traditional culture based on Confucianism; what challenges Confucianism and classics have in modern times; whether it has value and what the value is and what role it should be; whether Confucianism is likely to get promotion and how to develop it in the future; and so on.This article can be roughly divided into 3 parts, including history, reflection, practice. If you want know the truth, first, you should clarify the history of classic reading debate. Investigate different appeal each time and the both sides opinions from late Qing dynasty education reform to the contemporary classic reading debate.Generally speaking, classic reading education problems, in fact, is the embodiment of significance crisis. Due to the modernization and rationalization, leading to the loss of significance and freedom, eventually. Confucianism should use profound humanistic spirit to counteract the secularization, use value rational to counteract ubiquitous tool rational, use moral practice and mental culture to highlight the value. In contemporary, Confucianism should be a sober critics, significance and value provider, practitioners of self-improvement, and inheritor of Chinese culture. The revival of Confucianism must reflect contemporary social problems and life problems, let it out of the den and act on general public. The success of “Humanistic Buddhism” can give some enlightenment.Actually, reading classics is not only a pure theoretical problem it rather is a practical issue. It has influenced many generations of Chinese and now is influencing millions of children in contemporary era. In practice, I think reading classic is benefit to children’s growth, which help them inherit Chinese culture in the future. But the method should be appropriate. In this paper, according to the ancient enlightenment thought, which disagree classic reading apotheosis, idealistic. Meanwhile opposed to blindly recite, excessive reading, and illiterate reading. Pay attention to preventing excessive commercialization, improving teacher’s education level. Especially, educator’s should know ancient and modern education concept. Reading is not the ultimate goal, all for the better life. I think the revival of Confucianism must take into account two aspects, namely, “metaphysical” and “specific” Focus on reality problem is also important when you conduct theoretical study. In a word,this paper is a trial. Hoping this paper can make a contribution to this issue.
