| In recent years, scholars have increasingly focused on self-handicapping phenomenon among the students in academic situations. The self-handicapping phenomenon is prominent among the senior high school students. These students have been suffering from the pressure of exams and rankings for a long time and academic failure is the source of the failure of fear. Parenting style is the main influential factor of the self-handicapping and fear of failure. This research attempts to explore the relations between parenting style, self-handicapping and fear of failure, by establishing the model of these three variables. It will help the educators understand the influential factors of the self-handicapping, and provide reference to the prevention and intervention of self-handicapping.This research investigate 583 high school students which come from Harbin, using Simple Parenting Style Questionnaire(s-EMBU-C), Performance Failure Appraisal Inventory(PFAI), Self-Handicapping Scale(SHS) to explore the relationships among parenting styles, fear of failure and self-handicapping. The results are as follows:(1) There were significant difference on parents’ styles of genders, students origin, only and non-only students and grades; there were no significant difference on fear of failure of genders, but there were difference between students origin,genders, only and non-only students; there were no significant difference on self-handicapping of genders, only and non-only students, but there were difference of students origin, genders.(2) Parental overprotection, parental refused are positively correlated with self-handicapping; Parental emotional warmth are negatively correlated with self-handicapping; Fear of failure are positively correlated with self-handicapping.(3) Parenting styles, fear of failure both could predict self-handicapping.(4) Fear of failure play a mediating role between parenting style and self-handicapping. |
