| Self-compassion entails being kind and understanding toward oneself in instances of pain or failure rather than being harshly self-critical;perceiving one’s experiences as part of the larger human experience rather than seeing them as isolating; and holding painful thoughts and feelings in mindful awareness rather than over-identifying with them. The purpose of this study was to explore the influences of self-compassion and different levels of automatic thinking on psychological well-being. Two experimental designs were used to investigate the effects of self-compassion and automatic thouhgts on the psychological well-being of college students.Experiment 1, a single-factor two-level between groups design, to explore the influence of self-compassion on the psychological well-being. It was found that the difference between self-compassion and control group was significant, and the level of psychological well being of self-compassion inducing group was significantly higher than that of control group. The second experiment used 2(self-compassion: induced group VS control group) ×2(automatic thought: high level VS low level) two factors between subjects design, further investigation of the influence of self-compassion and automatic thoughts in psychological well-being. It was foundthat a significant main effect of self-compassion, F(1,117)= 4.40, P < 0.05, ηp2 = 0.04; a significant main effect of automatic thought, F(1,117) = 41.71, P < 0.01, ηp2 = 0.26;what’s more, self-compassion and automatic-thoughts the interaction effect significantly,F(1,117) = 4.62, P < 0.05,ηp2= 0.04. Further simple effect analysis, it is found that in the group of high level of automatic thoughts,self-compassion induced group psychological well-being sense is significantly higher than the control group, F(1,118) = 6.66,P < 0.05; in the group of low level automatic-thoughts,self-compassion induced group and control group of psychological well-being sense there is no significant difference, F(1,118) = 0.01, P > 0.05.The results showed that the self-compassion induced significant increase in the level of psychological well-being.After adding the automatic thinking of cognitive factors, self-compassion induced significantly improved the level of psychological well-being of high automatic thoughts, while the participants of low automatic thoughts did not have a significant impact. This may be due to the high automatic thoughts of individual existence of depression and self criticism levels are higher, by self-compassion induced reduced the participants of depression and self criticism, so as to improve the psychological well-being sense. Instead, in the low automatic thoughts of participants and they often existless depression and self criticism. Therefore, by self-compassion does not induce the decreased significantly of depression and self critical level, so that the induced by self-copassion of low automatic thoughts participants did not produce a significant effect. |
