A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Articles Of Association Based On The Parallel Text

The rapid growth of China’s economy has attracted an increasing number of foreign companies to set up their branch offices in China. A company’s articles of association is a necessary legal document to record the shareholders’ rights and duties after its registration. To help the Chinese partners better understand these regulations,it is crucial to provide a corresponding Chinese version of the articles of association.This study uses a sample text from AIA Group Limited to explore the value of parallel text in legal text translation from English to Chinese(E-C). This thesis analyzes the text type and characteristics of the articles of association, as well as the conception of parallel text and its application in some related work. Chapter four is the keystone of this paper. In chapter four, through a case study, the author exemplifies the difficulties in the case and the application of parallel text in E-C translation of words and phrases and sentences, especially the parallel text plays a great role in helping the author to have a better understanding of the translation project and choose the proper words and sentences in translation. This thesis aims to explicate that the application of highly relevant parallel text in legal text E-C translation is a good way to improve the quality of translation and working efficiency.
