German playwright Bertolt Brecht created a new type of drama-narrative drama which is a revolution and the creation of traditional theatrical drama. Narrative theater sets defamiliarization as the core and advocates the use of various means of defamiliarization to break the theater illusions, break the familiar things and environment, and meets the complex world objectively and then reforms it. In order to achieve the effects of defamiliarization in a better way and promote the realization of social function of drama, Brecht combined comedy and narrative drama to handle dramatic methods in a creative way based of the relationships between comedy and defamiliarization, then comedy became an important element in his narrative drama. This paper is divided into three chapters, each will based on close link between comedy and narrative drama to analyze the comedic performance through four parts, which are the shaping of the characters, the building of dramatic context, the expression of language, and explore the unique drama aesthetic theory of Brecht and its important social meanings by taking the breakthroughs of traditional comedy made by comedic elements in narrative dramas as entry point.
