| Director Ann Hui is not only an important representative of the Hong Kong’s New Wave, but also an outstanding female director for female films. The female films she is directing show females at all ages:the girl Hu Cailan in the film July Rhapsody, the young women E in the film Summer Snow, the middle-aged aunt in the film The Aunt’s Postmodern Life, and the elderly women Tao Jie in the film Tao Jie. From young to old, the female characters in Ann Hui’s films have the same experiences as hers, with specific thoughts as well as happiness and sadness at different ages. This paper will explore the position and attitude of Ann Hui’s feminist consciousness and the cause of it on the basis of analysis of female characters at different ages.The introduction section is about to introduce the research status of Ann Hui and her movies while summarizing the feasibility and significance of this thesis by analyzing the research data in inland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. The first chapter will discuss rebellious teenage girls in Ann Hui’ s film and the young girl’s feeling in her heart started with a introduction of rebellious teenage girls in overseas and domestic films.Chapter two is going to talk about the young women in the Ann Hui’s films who are changing from tradition to modern and the female consciousness of the director herself by researching the changes of youngwomen in the Chinese films. Chapter three will analyze the emotional expressions to old women in Ann Hui’s films by comparing other movies with middle-aged and old women as heroines. |
