Mr. Lu Xun once said “the foundation of China lies in Taoism”. This comment unveiled the spiritual source of Chinese people. Silence Sutra is one of the four classic canons of Quanzhen Taoism. Its silence theory not only absorbed the essence spirits from Lao Zi, the founder of Taosim, and Zhuang Zi, but also integrated the theories of alchemy practices. Silence Sutra plays a vital role in the inheritance and promotion of Taoism and its culture as well as the forming of personal aesthetics, in addition, it has a profound meaning to the world peace and stability. Therefore, the study of Silence Sutra and its notes & commentaries has become an inevitable topic for the academic world, an indispensable spiritual relation to the society and Chinese nation, and also an inexhaustible power to the development of Chinese traditional culture and the construction of Socialism Spiritual Civilization. This paper will make a probe and study from the notes & commentaries made by different litterateurs, theoretical origin & self aesthetics and the impact to the present world. This paper, from a historical angle, analyzes the subjective and objective reasons for the hand-down of Silence Sutra and briefly categorizes 7 different versions of its notes & commentaries. In the theoretical construction side, this paper not only traced back to the ideological origins of Taoism, but also further absorbed and promoted the inner aesthetic mind from alchemy practices and proposed an alchemical way of “to be innocent and naive”. With these theories, people are able to clean their minds, which may in return exert a profound influence on the establishment of a harmonious personality and society.
